SANBI offers a basic annual salary of R338 106.00

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to render quality library services for all SANBI staff, scientists, researchers, students, and the general public in the Mary Gunn Library and Northern gardens. Further ensure that all library collections in the Mary Gunn Library and the Northern regions are catalogued and classified.

This position requires a matric and a national diploma in Information Science/Studies or an equivalent qualification at NQF 6, with 4 years of work experience in the relevant field, or a degree or equivalent qualification at NQF 7, with 2 years in a library environment and cataloguing library materials.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: knowledge of administrative procedures, a high level of computer literacy, experience in working with a computerised library management system, excellent communication skills, outstanding customer service ethics, problem-solving, conflict management, experience in procurement, report writing, and organising skills. people management skills, and experience in the application of software tools, including (Ms. Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s license with at least one year of practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential. 


Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Perform administration and support service duties;
    • Provision of information services and training
    • Create and maintain a bibliographic record of the library collection
    • Attend to marketing and promotion of library services; and
    • Attend to team members’ development and empowerment within the business unit
