The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is leading the implementation of a project entitled “Scaling up Ecosystem-based Approaches to managing climate-intensified disaster risks in vulnerable regions of South Africa” (the Eco-DRR project). The USD 40.1 million project is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), with cofinancing from SANBI, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), for a period of 8 years from 2025 to 2033. The goal of the project is to improve the resilience of communities that are vulnerable to climate change-exacerbated floods, droughts and wildfires through the implementation of Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Eco-Disaster Risk Reduction measures. SANBI is looking for a self-motivated individual to render administrative and logistical support to the Adaptation Policy and Resourcing Division in overseeing SANBI’s GCF projects.
 
This position requires a national diploma in Public Management, Project Management, Financial Management, Business Administration (with a finance or project stream)equivalent qualification at NQF 6 with 4 years of work experience in the relevant field or a degree in Public Management, Project Management, Financial Management, Business Administration (with a finance or project stream) or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 with 2 years of work experience in the relevant field.  Postgraduate qualification in Public Management, Project Management, Financial Management, Business Administration (with a finance or project stream) or equivalent qualification with NQF 8 will be an added advantage.
 
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: comprehensive experience in providing administrative and logistical support to projects related to environmental management, public administration, and biodiversity management; extensive knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to office administration, project management, public administration, human resources management, supply chain management, logistics management, and event management is essential; ability to provide administrative and logistical support to multiple projects with high accuracy of information dissemination and records management; ability to work under pressure with diverse team whilst being quality, cost, compliance, and safety conscious; advanced planning, organizing, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook); working knowledge of an accounting package (e.g. SAGE 300) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.  
 
Key performance responsibilities include:
  • Provide financial and administrative support to the GCF projects within the Adaptation Policy and Resourcing (APR) Division;
  • Provide office administrative support to the GCF projects within the APR Division;
  • Provide logistical and operational support to the GCF projects within the APR Division ;
  • Attend to travel and workshop/meetings related and administration support to staff from other cost centres within the Division; and
  • Take initiative with ad-hoc tasks and assignments.
  • Interact and engage with the finance division on financial administration and processes
