SANBI offers basic annual salary of R397 116.00 plus 37% in lieu of benefits

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated and professional individual to provide technical GIS support related to ecosystem accounts and other spatial analysis in support of the Ecosystem-based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) Project and support the development of Natural Capital Accounts (NCA)-related knowledge products.


This position requires a degree in Environmental, Natural sciences or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A post-graduate qualification in Environmental, Natural sciences or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 4 years of work experience in relevant field of which 1 year experience in procurement, logistical, records and stores management, project and event management is required. 


The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Expected to travel; Valid driver’s licence; excellent verbal and written communication skills and creativity and innovation.


Key performance responsibilities include the following:
  • Source, generate, integrate, and manage spatial and non-spatial data to support ecosystem accounting and related analyses;
  • Undertake spatial analysis related to ecosystem accounting and spatial and non-spatial data analysis
  • Support technical and spatial knowledge products development and translation; and
  • Facilitate human capital development within the sub-directorate.
