The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a highly motivated, efficient, and enthusiastic person to manage the site security and coordinate the safety in line with Occupational Health and Safety regulation and policy.
This position requires a national diploma or advanced certificate in Security Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 6 with 4 years of work experience in the relevant field, OR a degree or advanced diploma in Security Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 with 2 years of work experience in the relevant field. An honours degree in Security Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: must have a valid Grade PSIRA grade B certificate; coordinate investigations into losses and security breaches; assess the site security risk and recommend mitigation measures to the line manager; manage access control; manage the security infrastructure; assist with internal and external customers queries on safety, security and site orientation; coordinate the general Safety, Health and Environmental matters of the garden (SHE); report on non-compliance on safety measures; attend to general management and supervision of security personnel, staff over weekend and entrance staff including car guards; must have ability to work under pressure whilst being cost, quality, and safety conscious; extensive experience in the implementation of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, processes, and regulatory framework relevant to Safety & Security Management; advance planning, organising, interpersonal, problem solving, and report writing skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook). The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
• Support garden related information services;
• Provide effective security management;
• Ensure effective visitor services;
• Coordinate health and safety management services; and
• Provide support on management of human resources for the unit.
